Honoring the Endurance Horse

by Ed Johnson – 1987

A fleeting glimpse of shadows
gliding through the trees
A phantom horse and rider
moving like the breeze
To the snowcapped mountain peaks
where the wary eagles dwell
A world above the silver clouds
there goes BEZATAL
A pause to quench a mounting thirst
where icy waters flow
The beauty of the sunrise
upon the frozen snow
Hear the echo of the hoofbeats
of this faithful steed
And the murmur of his nicker
that all is well indeed
They travelled onward through the day
toward the setting sun
The phantom horse and rider
the ride this day was won
